And Robert Rodriguez cried.
If you’re a Wolverine fan, you probably know to expect blood every time he shows up. And if you watched this week’s trailer for Insomniac’s upcoming PS5 game, well, let’s just say it earned its M rating. “Everyone looks like a bag of jam,” observed one Reddit user. “Nobody has any organs or bones. They’re just full of jam.” Luckily for the squeamish (and perhaps the game’s sales figures), the game will include accessibility options to alleviate it.
Sony studios have made accessibility a priority in recent years, and Marvel’s Wolverine seems to be no exception. Settings you can change include dynamic blood, dismemberment, and Logan’s physical damage. Each can be minimized or disabled completely. Even fixed cinematic violence, like, say, when we see a close-up of Wolverine ramming a claw into a guy’s face, can be blurred.
Game director Mike Daly suggested Eurogamer that the gore options were obvious. “We have a cool system for physics-based blood that flies out and splatters everywhere,” he said. “It hits characters, it gets diluted in water, and all that kind of cool stuff. Turning that off is the low-hanging fruit.”
