Myst and Riven remakes are coming to PlayStation, Xbox and the Microsoft Store

Developer Cyan Worlds Releases Remakes of Classic Adventure Game Mystery and its sequel Torn on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and the Microsoft Store. Mystery was previously available on Xbox, but both games have now been lovingly updated for modern hardware, including Sony’s PlayStation VR2 headset.

On the PS5, both Mystery And Torn can be played in 2D flat screen or VR mode using PS VR2. The flat-screen version of the games offers new ray tracing reflections and a Performance mode that can bump the game from 30fps to 60fps in exchange for turning off some graphics features. Both games also support PlayStation’s Power Saving Mode, for reduced power consumption, and are considered “PS5 Pro Enhanced” if you own Sony’s most expensive console and want to see “better view distance, foliage, textures, post-processing, and shading,” according to a new post on the PlayStation Blog.

The Xbox version of Torn postpones the Cyan Worlds improvements initially included in its Mystery remake. Torn supports Xbox Play Anywhere, offers ray tracing reflections, includes the same Performance mode offered on the PS5, and lets you play the game in 4K and with HDR enabled on supported displays.

Cyan Worlds has released several versions of Mystery And Torn over the years, but the developer’s efforts to modernize both games began in earnest in 2020 with the launch of Mystery for Meta’s Quest headsets. This game introduced a proper 3D version of Mysterys world, among other improvements. Cyan Worlds then brought a non-VR version of the remake to PC and Mac in 2021, and to iOS in 2023. The developers are working on the remake. Torn is newer and debuted in 2024 with simultaneous releases for PC, Mac, and Quest.

Both Mystery And Torn the remakes will be available for $35 each on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Microsoft Store on May 19. Mystery for Xbox Series X/S right now.
