The White House has announced the cavalcade of CEOs President Trump will take to China, and besides Tim Cook, it includes just about everyone you’d expect.
President Donald Trump is heading to Beijing to discuss trade with President Xi Jinping, and he has no plans to do it alone. As he has done in the past, the president assembled a group of CEOs to take with him.
Outgoing Apple CEO Tim Cook is one of sixteen people selected, according to a list viewed by The New York Times. Elon Musk, of Tesla and SpaceX, is also expected to join them.
Other leaders who round out the list include:
- BlackRock, Larry Fink
- Blackstone, Stephen Schwarzman
- Boeing, Kelly Ortberg
- Cargill, Brian Sikes
- Citi, Jane Fraser
- Consistent, Jim Anderson
- GE Aerospace, Larry Culp
- Goldman Sachs, David Salomon
- Illumina, Jacob Thaysen
- Mastercard, Michael Miebach
- Meta, Dina Powell McCormick
- Micron, Sanjay Mehrotra
- Qualcomm, Cristiano Amon
- Visa, Ryan McInerney
This is the first visit to China by a sitting president in nine years. The trip will last from May 13 to 15.
Cook’s presence is likely multifaceted. As the outgoing CEO, we expect these types of events to increase before he leaves on September 1st.
It is also strategic from a commercial point of view. The last time Cook was not present, this could have resulted in a special pricing only for iPhones in May 2025.
Cook, known to Trump as Tim Apple, has had, at best, a strained relationship with the president. There were times when Trump went after Cook in particular, while other times he had nothing but endless praise for him.
