The game “Build the Wall” filtered classic block-stacking mechanics through the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
The White House removed Build the walla browser game where you have to stack bricks to build a wall along the US-Mexico border, from its online arcade. The game’s removal appears to be a response to public misgivings from The Tetris Company, which last week distanced itself from the project and highlighted copyright issues, given Build the wallThe deliberate similarity to Tetris.
Build the wall was one of several games the White House introduced on September 3, apparently to attract the attention that crude, politically-themed mini-games might attract online. While Build the wall wasn’t the only game to clearly copy an existing title – Flappy Ticket is a clone of Flappy Bird And Rio Race it’s just Snake – it stood out due to the immediate negative response from The Tetris Company

On September 4, the company posted on Instagram and Build the wall and believes in “the power of connection and bringing people together”. He also suggested that he “takes copyright infringement very seriously.” In another comment to Woozad, the company did not commit to taking legal action, but said it was “reviewing the matter” to determine what further response was necessary. It’s unclear what the company ultimately did, but it appears that even a moderate public backlash pushed the White House to remove the game, a good lesson for the owner of the media property that the Trump administration will later usurp.
