It’s not quite the GTA news everyone was expecting, but we’ll take it.
Rockstar Games has released some new Grand Theft Auto news, although it’s not exactly the update everyone was waiting for. As of June 18, if you have Grand Theft Auto V on PS4 or if you have the Xbox One Digital Edition, you can upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S version for free. The current-gen version – arriving in March 2022 and initially available as a paid upgrade – features visual enhancements and performance improvements, such as faster switching between the three protagonists. You can transfer your save data and progress online when upgrading.
GTA V PC gamers can also get a free upgrade from an older version to the Enhanced Edition (which arrived last year). Rockstar claims that in addition to the same upgrades as the current-gen console versions, the Enhanced Edition includes PC-exclusive features like ray-traced ambient occlusion and global lighting.
Free upgrades are always welcome, especially now that many more people will own a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S (or perhaps a better PC) than four years ago. However, this appears to be a precursor to Rockstar shutting down for good. GTA Online on PS4 and Xbox One, as well as on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2021.
GTA fans have been eagerly awaiting completely different news about the franchise, namely more details on Grand Theft Auto VI. It looks like Rockstar is sticking with the current release date of November 19 after several delays. Parent company Take-Two claimed the GTA VI The marketing machine will be ramping up this summer, so the game’s third trailer – the first in over a year – seems imminent.
