Mactracker app celebrates 25 years as iPhone and iPad versions get major update with new features

Mactracker has long been a great Mac app for tracking just about every Apple hardware and software release. How long exactly? 25 years, in fact.

To help celebrate this big anniversary, Mactracker for iPhone and iPad is releasing a major new release this week that includes some useful new features.

The new Mactracker 5 update is the latest version of the benchmark app for iPhone and iPad.

“Mactracker 5 introduces Compare to highlight differences between devices, My Models to track details of your Apple collection, as well as UI and performance improvements,” developer Ian Page announced this week.

The new comparison tool on iPhone and iPad seems particularly useful.

It works a lot like the hardware comparison feature on Apple’s website, except you can do things like compare the iPhone 17 Pro Max to the original iPhone in Mactracker.

Here are the full release notes for Mactracker 5:

  • Adds iPhone Air MagSafe battery
  • Adds comparison functionality to highlight differences between models
  • Adds “My Models” feature to track details of your Apple collection
  • Adds support for iCloud Drive to sync “My Templates” across all your devices
  • Adds a summary to display information about your “My Models” collection
  • Adds an option to save the physical condition of entries in “My Models”
  • Many UI and performance improvements
  • Startup chimes will now operate in silent mode
  • Adds details about the latest operating system versions
  • Other minor changes and additions

You can download Mactracker 5 for iPhone and iPad for free from the App Store. Mactracker for Mac is also available for free, either as a direct download or through the Mac App Store.
