OpenAI could tease the next launch of its iPhone application with these clues

ChatGPT remains the most downloaded app on the App Store, and it looks like OpenAI will launch a new iPhone app soon.

OpenAI may be considering an iPhone version of its Codex app

OpenAI has invested heavily in its Codex desktop with updates arriving almost daily. Today’s release includes a new prompt that asks users a question: “What type of work do you do?” »

The feature adjusts the Codex UI based on the response. Options include engineering, product, finance, marketing, sales, operations, data science, design, students, and “something else.”

This feature arrives as OpenAI seeks to expand Codex’s appeal beyond agent coding as a general productivity application. Building inside the Codex allows the ChatGPT application to remain streamlined while providing a more performant solution for workflows.

OpenAI could also plan remote control features of the Codex from the ChatGPT app, but bringing a version of the Codex to iOS would extend its reach beyond the desktop.

If Codex is indeed a new iPhone app, it would be OpenAI’s third iOS app after Sora. The company discontinued the video-generating social feed app in March.

Earlier this month, Codex gained the ability to use apps on Mac without taking control of the cursor. This means you can use Codex to run tasks on your Mac without giving up the ability to use your machine at the same time.

In addition to improving the Codex desktop application, OpenAI recently introduced a subscription designed for Codex users. OpenAI also released GPT-5.5, upgrading the capabilities of ChatGPT and Codex, alongside Images 2 for image generation.

Next, it appears that OpenAI is planning an iPhone app that will serve as a remote control for Codex on Mac. Here are the clues to what comes next:

Codex only came to Mac in February, and soon a companion app for iPhone could be ready to follow. We will keep you informed of the latest news as it develops.
