CarPlay continues to give drivers more choices than ever when it comes to which services to use on the road. For example, CarPlay now works with three of the best AI chatbot apps. This extends the iPhone experience in the car without requiring any special integration between automakers and services.
These AI chatbot apps work with Apple CarPlay
Starting with iOS 26.4, Apple supports a new class of CarPlay apps: conversational voice apps.
AI chatbot apps fall into this category, and we’ve already seen three big names offering CarPlay support.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT app was the first to arrive on CarPlay. Perplexity comes in second with its own experience in voice mode.
Most recently, xAI-turned-SpaceXAI reported Grok for CarPlay with a placeholder app. The most recent version of the Grok iPhone app now includes support for CarPlay.
Grok voice mode in CarPlay works the same as other in-car AI chatbot apps. The app displays a list of recent conversations or you can start a new conversation.
Grok for CarPlay allows you to temporarily mute the conversation without completely stopping the session. It is also possible to change voices from the CarPlay application.
