Sony broadcast not one, but two presentations on the state of play on Thursday. While there probably haven’t been many seismic announcements – perhaps unless you’re a big fan of man eater – we got release dates for Until dawn 2 And Final Fantasy 7 revealas well as a look at a whole bunch of cool games. Sony also offered new looks at The ghost of Yōtei the next survival mode and story expansion, a DLC for Crimson Desert and an update for Saros.
Things started off with another music video for the resident Evil movie of Barbarous And Weapons director Zach Cregger. It showed protagonist Bryan making his way down a city street at night as zombies fell from rooftops and left a total mess. It was a hell of a way to get things started on Thursday. The film hits theaters on September 18.
It should probably come as no surprise that there’s a trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine as a reminder of Sony’s big game for this fall. I’m already sold. I don’t need to see anymore. Insomniac’s latest game comes to PS5 on September 15.
The ghost of Yōtei The roguelike combat survival mode, Most Wanted, is a bit like No Return in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. You will be able to play as Jin Sakai, the protagonist of The Ghost of Tsushima. As with the paid expansion and the Complete Edition of the game, Most Wanted will arrive on October 1st.
Next up was a trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendancy. The expansion is expected to land next year. It was revealed during State of Play Japan that Tokyo Game Show attendees would be the first to experience a public demo of the DLC.
Sony offered part of Metro 2039 running on a PS5 Pro. It looks as dark as one would expect from this first-person shooter series. 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver have also reduced the release date. The game comes to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on February 4.
We had to wait until the game’s sixth trailer for our first new announcement. Man Eater 2a sequel to a 2020 action RPG in which you play as a shark, is due to land next year.
An extension for Crimson Desert was announced. It’s called Mapping the unknown and it will be available for the action RPG, which is one of the best-selling games of the year so far, on October 15.
Shortly after news that Mattel was releasing a brick building set for the original Xbox, Lego revealed one for the PlayStation 1. The $180 set will be available on October 1st.
We have a trailer for Final Fantasy Resonancewhich is the first HD-2D game in the franchise. We had the opportunity to test the turn-based game (which will be released on October 22) and you can check out our first impressions. A demo is also available today.
Gundam Rogue Orbit has appeared and a release date for this action game has been announced. It will arrive on PS5, PC and Xbox Series X/S on March 5. The State of Play Japan stream provided more details.
Sony showed off a trio of indie games including Hunter’s Moona narrative title that takes place in a single night. It looks deliciously dark, and its release date is October 26.
Uncanyonfrom Annapurna Interactive and the studio behind the clever recursive head-scratcher Modelis an isometric puzzle game in which you explore a fantasy land. I like the art style here. The trailer showed expanding and moving structures and trees appearing out of nowhere as the protagonist approached. Uncanyon will arrive next year.
Guardian, of the new standalone Double Fine, is available on PS5 today. You play as a lighthouse in this adventure game that I’ve wanted to play for ages. It was one of Woozad’s favorite games of 2025.
Rev.Blackan RPG from Konami, now has a release window. It will arrive in 2027.
Another Konami game called Rhapsony in Scarlet looks interesting. It looks like a fantasy action RPG with a never-before-seen setting set in New York in the 1920s. There is no release window yet for this game (which appears to have a jazzy soundtrack and a magic-wielding mafia). State of Play Japan offered a closer look at this title, which Konami also highlighted during its own Press Start showcase today.
As is often the case during State of Play streams, Sony has announced some games coming to PlayStation Plus. Co-op shooter Mycopunk will be available on Premium and Extra tiers in the coming months. PlayStation 2 title Mega Man X: Command Mission will arrive this month in the classic catalog for Premium subscribers, followed by Dinosaur Crisis 2(!) and the original Ratchet and Clank later this year.
I suspected we might hear of a Saros updated and it turned out to be the case. There will be new accessibility options, including gyroscopic aiming and a way to slow down game speed. You can also expect a competitive boss racing mode, in which you can fight giant enemies with equipment of your choice, and a New Game+ mode which features new modifiers, progression options and “other secrets”. The free update will be available later this year.
Sony is not finished with Gran Turismo 7. A two-part update will be available soon for the racing game. The first piece will arrive next month and the other part in December. Sugo Circuit, from one of Japan’s best-known motorsport venues, is on the way, as is a larger version of Autumn Ring, a staple of the Gran Turismo series. A dozen new cars are coming, as well as online drift tests.
The showcase included another trailer and a release date for Until dawn 2. The horror sequel, driven by players’ narrative choices, will be released on PS5 on January 28.
Lest you forget this Grand Theft Auto 6 fast approaching, this game was mentioned during State of Play. Limited edition DualSense controllers are on the way. They are available in black and white.
As promised, Square Enix has offered an in-depth look at Final Fantasy 7 revealwith nearly 10 minutes of footage from the final part of this remake trilogy, which will be released on April 8. This gives newcomers plenty of time to play the previous two entries, FF7 Remake And FF7 Rebirthwhich are currently on sale.
