If you dial the Apple support phone number 1-800-APL-CARE from the United States or Canada, there’s a good chance an AI-powered support assistant will now answer.
While many Apple phone systems already had a basic automated operator, the Apple Support phone line now uses voice powered by generative AI. Assistant can answer questions and troubleshoot problems with your Apple products, and can provide detailed, step-by-step instructions. The assistant can always transfer you to a human advisor if it can’t answer a specific question, or if you request to speak to a real person.
An anonymous tipster claimed that Apple partnered with Sierra AI on the virtual assistant, but we have not independently confirmed this information.
One concern is that Apple’s increasing use of AI for customer service could lead to a reduction in the number of human advisors, via fewer job postings and/or layoffs.
It appears that Apple Support’s AI phone call assistant went live earlier this year. Apple also tested a new AI-powered chatbot in its Apple Support app, via a new “Ask” tab that was rolled out to a limited number of users.
