If there’s one thing tech companies love, it’s sleek, futuristic design. In the 2000s it was new and exciting, but 20 years later it’s starting to get pretty old. Luckily, some brands agree and have started offering cuter and more visually interesting alternatives. Take UGREEN, for example: it recently unveiled its new 45W charger shaped like a cat wearing a hoodie. It has a removable body to prevent damage to the pins, and you can choose between beige or dark gray variants.
There are a few problems: it’s only available in China and has a single USB-C port. Still, at around $13, this is an ideal charger for aesthetically pleasing and budget-conscious buyers. While there are no plans for an international release, if you can get your hands on one it should work in most regions. Indeed, this UGREEN Cat charger accepts inputs between 100 V and 240 V at 50/60 Hz, making it compatible with virtually all major electrical standards around the world. Just be aware that you may need an adapter to fit the plug to the outlets in your country.
A powerful charger at a reasonable price
To use this charger, remove the removable base, plug it into a wall, and connect whatever you want to charge via a USB-C cable. On paper, it’s not the most powerful device on the market. This makes sense: UGREEN’s products tend to be slightly less expensive than those of Anker or Belkin. On the other hand, if you’re not sure which brand of mobile accessories is best for you, it might be a good idea to start with cheaper options.
Generally, you can expect a 45W charger to take your phone from dead to 50% in about 30 minutes and to 80% in about an hour. UGREEN, however, claims that its cat charger can get an iPhone 17 to 50% in just 20 minutes. 45W may even be enough to power your Chromebook, but most laptops require at least 65W to prevent their batteries from draining while plugged in. Additionally, it is a GaN charger, which means its internal components are made from gallium nitride instead of silicon.
This has several advantages such as lower heat production, more efficient charging and a smaller and lighter final product.
