Apple’s tech specs suggest that the iPhone Duo’s main camera sensor apparently matches that of the iPhone 17e, not that of the standard iPhone 17.
According to Apple’s tech specs page for the iPhone Duo, the main camera is a 26mm, ƒ/1.6 sensor with optical sensor-shift image stabilization and hybrid focus pixels, also allowing a 2x 12MP telephoto crop from the same sensor. The iPhone 17e tech specs page lists an identical 26mm, ƒ/1.6 main camera with hybrid focus pixels, the same autofocus terminology Apple uses for the iPhone Duo.
The match is not complete, however. The technical specifications of the iPhone 17e describe simple “optical image stabilization” without the qualifier “sensor shift”, while those of the iPhone Duo do include it. This detail instead matches the standard iPhone 17 tech specs page, which pairs sensor-shift OIS with a different autofocus term, “100% Focus Pixels,” the wording that the iPhone 18 Pro tech specs page also uses, but Duo and 17e don’t.
This suggests that the iPhone Duo’s main camera realistically sits somewhere between the iPhone 17e and the iPhone 17, having the optical sensor-shift image stabilization of the iPhone 17, but with an iPhone 17e-style sensor that uses hybrid focus pixels.
The overlap of the words Focus Pixels with the 17th is fueling online speculation that the two devices share a sensor. Apple hasn’t released a sensor size or pixel pitch for the iPhone Duo’s main camera, leaving the corresponding Focus Pixels label as the only official link to the 17th for now.
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, with pre-orders opening October 16 before an October 23 release.
