Miami GP: Cue talks F1 movie sequel, streaming rights extension and Ternus’ love of racing

As the 2026 F1 season rolls into Miami for the first of three US races of the year, Apple SVP of Services and Health Eddy Cue spoke to press about the company’s growing involvement in the sport, including John Ternus’ passion for racing. Here are the details.

Cue says Ternus will strengthen Apple’s relationship with F1

As reported ReutersEddy Cue told press at the Miami Grand Prix that he “hopes and expects” there will be a sequel to F1: The Movie.

His remarks come just over two months after F1: the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, told the BBC that a sequel to Apple’s Oscar-winning film was “officially in the works.”

This followed comments from Eddy Cue himself a few days earlier, when he raised the topic during Apple’s televised press day.

At the time, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, who was on stage alongside Cue, told press to “stay tuned” after Cue raised a possible sequel in a tongue-in-cheek exchange.

Back at the Miami GP, Cue also spoke about Apple’s hopes of expanding its streaming rights for F1 races globally.

From Reuters:

“The sport is not licensed globally,” he added. “Do I hope we can expand into other areas and markets? Yes, I do.

“But starting in the United States, which is a huge market for us, and being able to build from there, is definitely the right way to do it. And that’s what we’re focused on right now. The easiest way for us to continue to grow is to make sure we make it a huge success.

“And then, of course, it would be great to expand it.”

Finally, Cue also made a point of mentioning John Ternus’ love of motorsport, saying that Apple’s next CEO is even more interested in the sport than Tim Cook:

“John drives a Porsche and competes in amateur races,” he explained. “He would actually be here this weekend but he is in Laguna Seca.

“So rest assured he’ll be doing more races than Tim. He’s a really big F1 fan and he knows it, he’s a big supporter. So you’ll continue to see his full support.”

Apple has invested heavily in the Miami GP, with a special 3D experience in Apple Maps and a takeover of its website homepage.

If you live in the United States and are an Apple TV subscriber, you can watch the race this Sunday, May 3 at 4 p.m. ET, with the sprint and qualifying events scheduled for Saturday, May 2 at 12 p.m. ET and 4 p.m. ET, respectively.

Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month and offers hit TV shows and movies like Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking and Silo.
