Meta wants to sell its AI products and services to other companies.
When in doubt, Meta no longer wants its business to rely solely on advertising. Meta is officially launching a new company to sell its AI products and services to other companies.
Mark Zuckerberg announced the move in a Facebook post, saying selling AI-driven enterprise services represented the “next major pillar of our business.” To lead this effort, Zuckerberg brought on Chirantan “CJ” Desai as the company’s new director of enterprise platform. Desai previously led database company MongoDB.
The company has been laying the groundwork for this shift in recent months with a host of AI-driven tools, including sales agents and a coding platform. Meta is rumored to have considered leasing some of its data center infrastructure to other companies, although it has not yet announced specific plans to do so.
“Meta Enterprise Platform will use our strengths that few other companies have: advanced models, best-in-class agents, large-scale infrastructure, and years of close collaboration with many companies,” Zuckerberg wrote. “Initially, we will focus on bringing our full technology stack, including Muse Agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code, and more, to businesses and developers to help them grow.”
Creating a new company could help Meta profit from its massive investments in AI. Zuckerberg said he expects the company to spend $600 billion on AI over the next two years, much of which will fund new data centers. This level of spending has raised questions about how Meta plans to make money from its AI business. The company has started offering AI subscriptions aimed at consumers and small business owners, but it has yet to prove that Facebook and Instagram users are willing to pay heavily for these subscriptions. On the other hand, a dedicated business could be much more lucrative.
