It’s almost time for Siri AI.
The next version of iOS will arrive on Monday, September 14, Apple announced today at its fall iPhone event. Apple first introduced iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 at WWDC 2026 earlier this year. The operating systems mark the public debut of Siri AI, the company’s long-awaited (and often delayed) overhaul of its digital assistant. Apple has partnered with Google to use the company’s Gemini models in training the algorithms that power Siri AI. In Woozad’s initial testing of Siri AI, we found that the assistant was actually able to answer complex questions and execute multi-step prompts.
However, if you are using an older iPhone, you may not be able to benefit from Siri AI. Support for the new digital assistant only goes back to 2023’s iPhone 15 Pro, meaning only three and a half generations of iPhones (including the new models Apple announced today) can run Siri AI. Additionally, newer models, starting with last year’s iPhone 17, 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air, will offer a better experience. They benefit from a more powerful integrated model that allows for more precise voice recognition and dictation. For iPads, support is limited to the latest iPad mini and iPad Air and Pro models with an M1 chip or newer. Outside of Siri AI, iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 include changes to Apple’s Liquid Glass design language and a new set of child safety features. Apple also promises performance improvements across the board.
Apple hasn’t confirmed it yet, but it’s likely that iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and watchOS 27 will arrive on the same day. We will update this story when these details are confirmed.
