The iOS 27.2 beta Apple released today adds a feature that reminds you it’s your birthday when you call someone, provided you’ve added the date in the Contacts app.
On your birthday, when you go to call the person, you will see a reminder that it is an important day so you don’t forget to say something. The birthday alert uses Call Context, a feature added by Apple in iOS 27.
Call context displays information from emails and other sources when you make a phone call. If you call an airline and you have an email with a flight confirmation number for that airline in the Mail app, that confirmation number appears so you don’t have to search for it.
In iOS 27, Call Context works with birthdays and displays a fireworks animation when you make a call. iOS 27.2 adds birthdays, but unfortunately it doesn’t come with a new animation.
The Birthday Call Context option builds on top of your Contacts app. To add a birthday to a contact, open the Contacts app and select their name. Tap “Edit” in the corner, then tap “Add a date” and the first suggestion under the date is anniversary.
You can also ask Siri AI to add the birthday to the person’s contact card if you have a device that supports Apple Intelligence.
iOS 27.2 is currently in beta and is scheduled to launch in October.
