The final chapter will be released simultaneously on PS5, Switch 2, Xbox and PC.
Notable by its absence in Sony’s State of Play (perhaps because it didn’t need it with so many heavy hitters), the final chapter of its Square Enix RPG remake is almost here. During the big showcase on Friday evening of SGF 2026, we were able to discover the continuation of the world tour of the FF7 crew despite the absence of a certain member. (A spoiler from 1997 is always a spoiler.)
The trailer opened with a quick summary of the original game, presenting it as a different kind of story. We also got to see the iconic Highwind airship in action, with new seamless integration between navigating the outside world on board and on the ground, complete with parachute.
There’s a brief view of Cid and Vincent properly joining group battles for the first time. (Vincent’s limit transformation looks particularly cool.) You’ll still be able to switch characters during fights, while Vincent will be able to shoot parts of the environment in the game, although we don’t know if this is limited to certain chapters, like in Remake And Renaissanceor throughout the game.
A new equipment system, called Fits, will apparently unlock new moves and combat upgrades, while also offering a new degree of customization to the appearance of characters in the game. (And a new way to earn money on DLC?)
A launch in 2027 would be a good way to conclude RemakeThe journey of , 30 years since the launch of the original Final Fantasy 7 on the original PlayStation. Square Enix took one of the most influential RPGs in history, remade it, heavily adjusted the story, and built an entirely new combat system.
We didn’t get to learn much about how the combat system was refined for the latest chapter, but I’m sure there will be more to explore/complain about. Will we see more at the SGF 2026 in-person event, which begins tomorrow? Unlikely, since Square Enix is not present this year. Cruel, when I came here personally.
