Before last year’s release Citizen Sleeper 2: Starry Vector, Creator Gareth Damian Martin said they are finished making new Citizen Sleeper video games. Instead, Martin promised to continue the tabletop series. It was a very fitting plan, considering Martin’s inspiration for Sleeping Citizen And Sleeper Citizen 2 came from TTRPG like Blades in the dark. And they quickly delivered on that promise by releasing Pina free single-player game set on one of the stations that players could visit CS2a few months later. As a fan of the series, I thought maybe this was all the new Citizen Sleeper Martin had planned for a little while, but today they announced that they were working on a brand new tabletop game called Citizen Sleeper: Helion Rising.
“Rising Helion is a TTRPG about surviving in the ruins of interplanetary capitalism, resisting corporate power, and building a future, cycle by cycle, together.,” Martin writes about their new project. “You play as a member of a crew, along with your friends, as you try to make ends meet in a solar system built from the remains of a collapsed corporation. You’ll take on tough contracts, attempt to navigate your way between hostile and friendly factions, and live a life among the stars, full of meaningful struggles, small victories, and moments of human connection.”
In short, it seems Rising Helion will attempt to make the world of Citizen Sleeper something you can share with your friends. If you haven’t played video games, I highly recommend you do so. They tell truly compelling stories about finding community and meaningful connections in what can seem like hopeless situations. If you want to check it out, both games are currently enjoying the highest discounts ever on Steam and other storefronts.
Either way, Martin promised to share more information about the project later this year. They also tease others Sleeping Citizen the fallout, although they haven’t exactly said it yet. Finally, Martin announces that on June 7 they will present the new video game they have been working on since the release of CS2describing it as “a totally new project in a new world that I’ve been working on for years.” I can’t wait.
