Apple was caught off guard by the “extraordinary” demand for the MacBook Neo

Apple’s most affordable MacBook appears to be a smash hit with customers, based on comments shared this week by CEO Tim Cook.

In a conference call Thursday, Cook said customer response to the MacBook Neo has been “off the charts” since the laptop’s unveiling in March.

“We couldn’t be happier with the way things are going right now,” he said.

Apple was very optimistic about the MacBook Neo before announcing it, but the company still “underestimated” the level of excitement the laptop would generate, according to Cook. He said demand for MacBook Neo exceeded Apple’s expectations and helped drive a record number of new Mac buyers last quarter.

“We’re very focused on customers who are new to Macs and those who have held on to their Macs for a very long time,” Cook said.

Due to high demand, Cook added that the MacBook Neo is currently “constrained in supply.” For orders placed today, Apple’s US online store currently shows a delivery estimate of 2-3 weeks for all configurations of the laptop.

Apple launched the MacBook Neo on March 11, after a week of pre-orders. In the United States, pricing starts at just $599 for the general public and an even lower $499 for students and qualified educational personnel. Powered by a version of the A18 Pro chip from the iPhone 16 Pro, the laptop is available in Citrus, Blush, Indigo, and Silver finishes.
