DoomPaint was developed by the CTO of Microsoft Azure.
The iconic FPS Loss was spotted running on Microsoft Paint, according to a report from Tom’s material. Doom Painting runs the original shareware version using MS Paint as a monitor for the in-game action. Interestingly, it can reach 35 FPS. This is actually a decent metric for 1990s PC gaming.
Also interesting? This entire project was led by Mark Russinovich, the CTO of Microsoft Azure. “Each image is placed on the Windows clipboard and pasted into the Paint canvas like a real document edit,” he wrote on the game’s GitHub.
This GitHub repository also includes resources and instructions on how to run the game on your own version of MS Paint. It should be noted that this version includes sound and music.
Loss is legendary for its efficient programming, and since its release in 1993, customers have gotten it to run on a variety of platforms for which it was never intended. Lawnmowers, printers, chatbots, video game consoles, and even gut bacteria can technically work Loss. The latter was particularly impressive, even though the frame rate was so slow that it would take around 600 years to play the game from start to finish.
