Windows 11 can be a nuisance, reminding you to link your phone to the operating system using Phone Link, but I gave up on that utility years ago. It’s built on a sound principle: if the basic elements of your handheld were accessible on your PC, you would not need to interrupt your focus on the flow by switching to the phone. Additionally, phone use begins with the innocent intention of reading a 2FA code or dismissing a malicious email notification, but it quickly escalates into unrelated distractions. Built directly into the operating system, Phone Link should have provided a…

Samuel Boivin/Shutterstock Microsoft plans to remove nearly 70 apps across its product families throughout 2026. It has already started, with 15 apps shut down as of January 13, 2026, according to Microsoft’s own documents. You may never encounter many of these unless you are actively in the IT industry, managing many different aspects of a Windows-based workplace. Until now, Microsoft has sent software like Advanced Threat Analytics, which had been scheduled for obsolescence since 2020, to its ever-growing product graveyard.
