Apple held its WWDC 2026 State of the Platform Union yesterday, detailing a wide range of updates to its developer tools and platforms, headlined by a major expansion of the Foundation Models framework. The main announcement was free access to Apple Foundation models running on Private Cloud Compute for developers with fewer than two million first downloads from the App Store, removing infrastructure costs that were a barrier to building AI-driven features. The framework also benefits from image grabbing support, server-side template integration allowing developers to call third-party templates like Claude and Gemini through the same Swift API, and a…

Apple in iOS 27 made a small but significant change to how the Now Playing widget works on your iPhone’s lock screen: you can now swipe it to get rid of it. Previously, there was no way to close the Now Playing interface on the lock screen. But in the first iOS 27 developer build released yesterday, swiping left on the playback controls slides a Clear button in from the right. Clearing the screen controls also removes the smaller Now Playing widget from the dynamic island. It’s not yet clear how to bring widgets back immediately – like 9to5Mac notes,…
Sitthiphong/Getty Images Part of the overall appeal of wearing a smartwatch, aside from the quick access to essential apps from your Android or iPhone, is the various health tracking capabilities. Smartwatches, at least on paper, can provide information on a variety of health metrics, including your calorie burn, heart rate, sleep tracking, and VO₂ Max, which can be invaluable both during workouts and as individual metrics. We say “on paper” because, unfortunately, while smartwatches can collect a lot of data during regular use, knowing whether it’s 100% accurate is another…
Apple yesterday announced a redesigned Find My app in watchOS 27 that consolidates all tracking features into a single map-centric interface. Previously split into separate Find Devices, Find People, and Find Things apps, the new app now consolidates everything into a unified view. Apple says the update makes it easier to locate the people, devices, and things you care about, with a map-centric layout as the central navigation paradigm. The redesign also introduces more flexible sharing options in Find My, giving users greater control over how they share their location and tracking of their items with others. Instagram is now rolling out a highly anticipated feature that allows users to rearrange posts in any order on their profile grid. The update, which began reaching users on June 8, is available through the Instagram app for iPhone and Android. To rearrange posts, users can go to their profile, long-press on any post in the grid, select “reorder grid” from the context menu, and then drag the content to the desired position. Changes are saved immediately and are visible to all visitors. Until now, Instagram profiles displayed posts in strict reverse chronological order, with the only exception being the…
Apple has expanded the number of major U.S. cities where its Apple Pay for public transit feature is supported, providing an easy way for those who use public transportation to pay for their trips. Apple Pay for public transit now works in Atlanta, the Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Orange County, Philadelphia, Portland, San Diego, Seattle and Washington, DC. Some of these cities have supported Apple Pay for transit purposes for several years, and in others, like Dallas and Houston, support is new as of June 2026. In cities that support Apple Pay for public…
José Adorno/BGR With another WWDC keynote over, Apple has decided, once again, to ignore tvOS 27, its next operating system update for Apple TV users. Although Apple hasn’t focused on new features in its set-top box, at least eight features will be available on Apple TV. While this update doesn’t seem as notable as tvOS 26 or tvOS 18, Apple is improving the Liquid Glass design introduced last year, revamping the Podcasts app, including smart downloads, improved AirPlay connections, and more. Unlike other operating system updates, which all have their…
The developer has decided to focus on Senua, the next title in the Hellblade franchise. Ninja theory Ninja Theory, the developer behind the Hellblade saga, is no longer working on Mara Project after deciding to focus on the Hellblade franchise. In an in-depth interview with Xbox Wire about the Hellblade sequel Senuastudio head Dom Matthews said he took the 85 people working at Ninja Theory and asked them to expand on the experience from previous games for the upcoming title. “And given that the entire team is working on this game, I suspect some people might…
Images Tada/Shutterstock You may subscribe to Straight Talk or Total Wireless, but that carrier’s name doesn’t appear in your iPhone’s status bar. Instead, you may see “TFW” at the top of your iPhone or in Control Center, a label you may not recognize. But there’s no need to worry. This is not an error or a bug, and it is not a misspelling of the acronym “FTW,” short for “for victory,” that you may see on social media. TFW stands for TracFone, and it’s the name that’s supposed to appear…
