Apple TV is a premier destination for comedies, headlined by hits like Ted Lasso and Shrinking. And recent announcements reveal that many equally promising series are in the works.
Apple TV’s New and Upcoming Comedies Deliver Compelling Programming

One of Apple TV’s strongest genres, alongside science fiction, has long been comedies.
The first major Apple series was Ted Lasso. And since then, the co-creator of Lasso has also given birth to the excellent Shrinking and Bad Monkey.
Apple is currently releasing two excellent new comedy-style series:
Margo’s Got Money Troubles just aired its finale this week, but it’s also a comedic drama worth watching.

As for summer, upcoming comedy premieres include the long-awaited return of Ted Lasso in August, a new season of the beloved British series Trying, and a pickleball movie called The Dink. And this fall, a Texas comedy called Brothers will star Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
We also expect the wait for a new season of Shrinking to be mercifully short, thanks to a quick filming of season 4.
Further afield, Apple is preparing two other new high-profile comedies.
Apple’s upcoming comedy series includes vehicles starring Ben Stiller and Elizabeth Banks

Deadline today announced a new comedy series coming to Apple TV called Protective Custody, headlined by star Ben Stiller:
Ben Stiller is set to star and serve as executive producer Protective Guarda new comedy series from Mike Judge (Silicon Valley), Steve Hély (Common side effects) and Dave King (Parks and Recreation) that Apple is developing for mass ordering.
Marking the first lead role in a comedy series for Stiller, Protective Guard will follow a disgraced financier accused of massive fraud who is placed in protective custody, where he must navigate prison politics, save his reputation and face the consequences of his actions while awaiting trial.
Stiller is a frequent collaborator with Apple at this point, most notably for his work on Severance. He also stars alongside Jessica Chastain in an upcoming limited series, The Off Weeks.

Another recent Apple TV announcement is for a half-hour comedy from Elizabeth Banks.
Banks stars and executive produces the untitled series, from creators Liz Heldens (“Will Trent,” “Friday Night Lights”) and Matt Ward (“The Big Leap,” “Best Medicine”). Here is the plot summary:
Fresh from a messy divorce, Heidi sets out to ensure a lively second act for herself and her children. But when she finds herself coordinating her father’s sexual trysts at the retirement community, Heidi is forced to enter into an unlikely alliance with her girlfriend’s perpetually single son.
Filming on the Elizabeth Banks series begins this year in Los Angeles, so a 2027 premiere is likely. Protective Guard could also arrive next year, but it’s earlier in development, so the timing is anyone’s guess.
