We’re less than three weeks away from the WWDC and iOS 27 unveiling, and reports indicate that Apple has three main goals for the update that could be just what the iPhone needs. iOS 27 will focus on AI, design updates and bug fixes for improved performance, says report There have been many leaks about what’s new in iOS 27, most thanks to Bloomberg Marc Gurman. Now that the iOS 27 unveiling is almost here, it seems clear from rumors that Apple is focusing on three main pillars with this year’s iPhone update: Apple Intelligence, including Siri redesign Refinements of liquid glass Bug fixes and battery improvements You can see these focus areas in a variety of reports, but they were summarized well by Gurman last week when he wrote: Beyond adjusting the appearance of Liquid Glass, Apple will focus on bug fixes, battery life upgrades, and performance improvements. The refinement effort is one of two major projects in Apple’s “27” operating system releases this year, the other being to add more artificial intelligence features. Whether or not these areas of interest match your personal wish lists, I think they fit the iPhone’s current needs perfectly and could prove to be a big win for users. Why the three goals of iOS 27 are the right priorities for this year There’s no doubt that Apple has a lot to prove in the AI space. The first 18 months of Apple Intelligence have, in many ways, been disappointing. But the biggest hurdle Apple faces is delivering the expected Siri redesign. When Apple failed to deliver promised Siri upgrades last year, the company’s already fragile AI reputation was further damaged. iPhone sales have not yet suffered. But if Apple fails to deliver an awesome new Siri in iOS 27, Wall Street will at least be very concerned. Liquid Glass is another key area for improvement. Overall, the new iPhone design appears to have been a success. But iteration has always been a strength of Apple, and I think Liquid Glass in iOS 27 will address some of the biggest user complaints from last year. Finally, bug fixes and battery improvements are always welcome. But they could be even more so this year following certain setbacks of iOS 26. Anecdotally, iOS 26.0 doesn’t seem to be the most friendly to iPhone battery life. This is likely due to bugs and issues with the introduction of a major visual overhaul. Last fall, Mark Gurman said that iOS 27 would be a Snow Leopard-style update, with an added focus on squashing bugs and improving performance. From the rumors, it’s clear that Apple is also coming up with plenty of new features, especially in the AI department. It will therefore not be a truly “no new feature” update, as the reference to Snow Leopard suggests. But if the company can deliver a better, more battery-efficient update, along with major AI improvements and design improvements, iOS 27 could be a big win for users.
