Apple releases iOS 26.5 with 3 key features, including new wallpapers for your iPhone

Apple has released iOS 26.5, bringing three key improvements to your iPhone. The new software update also includes a new colorful wallpaper option and much more.

What’s new in iOS 26.5

“This update introduces end-to-end encrypted RCS (beta) messaging and a downloadable Pride Luminance wallpaper, as well as improvements, bug fixes, and security updates to your iPhone,” according to Apple.

iOS 26.5 mainly focuses on three key changes for iPhone users:

• End-to-end encrypted RCS messaging (beta) in Messages is available from supported carriers and will roll out over time.
• Pride Luminance wallpaper which dynamically refracts a spectrum of colors is available for download.
• Suggested Places in Maps displays recommendations based on nearby trends and your recent searches.

However, iOS 26.5 is not limited to high-level features.

For example, later this summer, Apple Maps will begin showing ads in search results for users in the United States and Canada.

iOS 26.5 also supports a new 12-month commitment with monthly payment options for App Store subscription. This first came in iOS 26.4 globally, but iOS 26.5 is required for customers in the United States.

The software update also introduces changes to Apple’s Reminders app. Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad accessories now automatically pair via Bluetooth after being connected via USB-C.

In the EU, even more changes are included with iOS 26.5. For example, there is live activity transfer for third-party accessories, if necessary. In Brazil, iOS 26.5 appears to pave the way for sideloading support on iOS.

Looking ahead, Apple is set to unveil iOS 27, the next major iPhone software update, in less than a month at WWDC 2026. The announcement will take place on Monday, June 8, with the first developer beta expected the same day.
