Today, Apple announced its lineup of new accessibility features coming to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 and more, with an upgrade to Voice Control offering an exciting preview of the agent capabilities the new Siri would gain. iOS 27 Upgrades Voice Control with AI, Offering a Preview of Siri’s Supposed Agent Features Every year, Apple introduces new accessibility features before WWDC, providing the first official reveal of improvements in upcoming versions of iOS, macOS, and more. One of the highlights of this year’s batch of features is that voice control in iOS 27 will support natural language thanks to Apple Intelligence. From Apple’s press release: With Apple Intelligence, voice control becomes more intuitive than ever, using natural language to help users with various physical disabilities navigate iPhone and iPad entirely by voice. With new flexible input, users can describe on-screen buttons and controls in natural language instead of memorizing exact labels or numbers. The “say what you see” option is ideal for navigating any app, including those with visual presentations like Apple Maps or Files, using intuitive language like “tap the best restaurant guide” or “tap the purple folder.” It can also help users overcome obstacles when items are not properly labeled for accessibility. Obviously, this feature has huge accessibility benefits. But as Mark Gurman confirmed, the underlying agentic capabilities are also built into iOS 27’s new Siri. In 2024, Apple announced that Siri would be able to: Perform hundreds of new actions within and across apps Become aware of everything that is happening on your screen These features were ultimately delayed. But now Apple has actually previewed a version of it via this Voice Control upgrade. This connection was spotted by Dylan McDonald, who shared Apple’s demo video: Correct me if I’m wrong, but it looks like Apple simply abandoned the agentic AI built into the iPhone. Yes, in this video it is used for voice control, but if a person can control their iPhone with natural language, so can an AI agent! pic.twitter.com/S6DQOiQGsO -Dylan (@DylanMcD8) May 19, 2026 As the video shows, Siri gaining agentic capabilities could prove to be an extremely powerful tool on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro. There’s something magical about being able to simply talk to your device about whatever you see and make it understand and act. And based on Apple’s 2024 announcements and reports from Mark Gurman and others, that’s exactly what will happen in just a few weeks.
