The iPhone Duo’s internal display uses a complex multi-layer structure that Apple says will resist wear and tear.
There are 10 ultrathin layers in total, including a nano-textured cover layer made from a custom polymer that Apple says is up to 40% stiffer than “other materials used in the industry,” which likely means other foldable devices.
Apple added high-strength glass above and below the foldable display panel, as well as a titanium plate at the bottom of the stack. Custom adhesives “allow layers to slide over each other like pages in a book, reducing bending stress,” according to Apple.
The exterior nano-textured layer finish is intended to reduce glare and minimize crease visibility, and a scratch-resistant coating covers the nano-textured layer.
The outer screen is protected by Ceramic Shield 2 like the iPhone 18 Pro models, while the back of the iPhone has Ceramic Shield. The inner screen gets the custom polymer cover instead of the Ceramic Shield.
Both iPhone Duo displays support ProMotion, Always-On, and True Tone and offer a maximum outdoor brightness of 3,000 nits.
