Chesnot/Getty Images Anthropic is on track to post $10.9 billion in revenue for the quarter ending in June, double the first quarter’s revenue, according to The Wall Street Journal. Of this total, the company expects to make an operating profit of $559 million, which would make it the company’s first profitable quarter since its inception in 2021 if it achieves this goal. The company reportedly revealed these numbers to a group of investors for its current funding round, which could increase its valuation beyond that of OpenAI. Although the chances are high that it will achieve profitability for the quarter, Anthropic does not expect to be profitable in subsequent quarters. The company plans to spend more money on IT and other expenses as it expands its business. Anthropic once lagged behind its peers and was not as well-known as competitors like OpenAI, even though it sells its products to large companies. However, it has continued to grow in popularity in recent months, with its chatbot Claude climbing to the top of Apple’s App Store following the company’s conflict with the Department of Defense. The company made headlines earlier this year when its CEO, Dario Amodei (pictured above), said Anthropic could not “in good conscience” comply with a Pentagon order to remove its AI guardrails. Specifically, the company didn’t want to remove its AI’s safeguards for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons. As a result, the Department of Defense called this a “supply chain risk,” a designation typically reserved for companies in countries like China and Russia. President Trump also ordered federal agencies to stop using Claude. Anthropic is, however, trying to find a way to be accepted by the U.S. government again, and some federal agencies still use its products. The NSA, in particular, is reportedly using Claude Mythos Preview, the company’s first-of-its-kind AI model for cyber defense. It’s worth noting that OpenAI, which is perhaps the best-known name in generative AI technology, has yet to achieve profitability. The company does not expect to achieve this until 2029 or 2030. OpenAI is preparing to file for an initial public offering (IPO) and could go public as early as September. The New York Times just reported. Bloomberg previously reported that Anthropic was also considering an IPO and could go public in October. Post navigation SpaceX IPO Plans Now Public
