WhatsApp Plus subscriptions are now rolling out to iPhone

A paid WhatsApp Plus subscription went live in the Android beta last month and is now gradually rolling out to iPhone users.

It has just gone live for a small number of iOS users and would be rolling out to more accounts over the coming weeks…

WABetaInfo shared the news.

WhatsApp Plus is a subscription plan now available to a limited number of iOS users (…) and it will be rolled out to more accounts over the coming weeks.

It doesn’t appear to be available in the US yet. The European price is €2.49 per month, which suggests it will cost between $2.49 and $2.99 when it goes live in the US.

The good news is that all existing WhatsApp messaging features remain available in the free app. Additional features you get in WhatsApp Plus are:

  • Send premium stickers
  • Choose a custom app icon
  • Change the theme of your app
  • Get premium ringtones
  • Improve your lists
  • Pin additional discussions

The most convenient upgrade is the ability to pin up to 20 chats instead of the three you get as standard. WABetaInfo also gives an example of what you get from the upgraded list features.

For subscribed users, WhatsApp will introduce new tools allowing you to manage multiple chats at the same time via these lists. For example, if a subscriber creates a list containing all of their work colleagues, they can apply a single chat topic to all included conversations with a single selection. Users can also set a split alert tone for messages and a unified ringtone for calls. This allows subscribers to maintain consistent settings for the same discussion list.

Premium stickers include animated overlay effects. Only paid subscribers can use them, but free users will still see them.
