The modular face of the Apple Watch Ultra simplified for watchOS 27

Apple Watch updates in watchOS 27 include new watch faces, with Apple testing a new, simpler version of the Modular Ultra for the standard model.

As WWDC approaches in June, there will be rumors of leaks and speculation about Apple’s software changes. One of the most frequent updates to expect is to the Apple Watch, in the form of new faces.

According to Mark Gurman in Sunday’s “Power On” newsletter for BloombergApple’s update to watchOS 27 will include some changes to the watch face, as usual. Apple is reportedly testing several new faces for inclusion, but Gurman only discusses one notable release.

He writes that Apple is preparing a simplified version of the Modular Ultra, the watch face designed for the Apple Watch Ultra. This is a version that Apple is apparently trying to rework so it can be used on the smaller face of other Apple Watch models.

The improvements retain the large clock face design, but eliminate the large complication section in the center. It also removes the row of three small complications that appear above the time, as well as the information surrounding the bezel.

The change changes to a large clock for the upper two thirds of the screen. The bottom row of three small complications remains under time, complementing the rest of the design.

The result is a face less dense in information but adapted to the standard series models.

The modular face isn’t the only one on the way. As part of watchOS 26.5, Apple is introducing a new Pride Luminance face as part of its annual Pride collection.
