If you’ve been waiting for the Steam Deck to be back in stock, there’s good news and bad news. After several months, Valve’s handheld is finally available for purchase, but at a much higher price. Valve shared in a Steam news post that the 512GB Steam Deck OLED will now cost $789 (was $549), while the 1TB model will cost $949 (was $649). This also marks the end of the 256GB LCD Steam Deck, which Valve previously announced was discontinuing. Although disappointing, it is not surprising. In February, Valve acknowledged that the current chip shortage had impacted Steam Deck production.
In the latest statement, the company explains: “Steam Deck itself has not changed; “These new prices reflect the current state of component costs and other global logistics challenges across the industry,” clarifying that nothing in the hardware itself has changed. Many predicted a price increase for the Steam Deck earlier this year when Valve’s Asian distributor, Komodo, increased the price of both models by Â¥15,000 (around $94). Still, the actual price hike – $240 more for the 512GB and $300 more for the 1TB – is steeper than expected and clearly shows how much worse the storage crisis has gotten.
Steam Deck and other gaming hardware are getting more and more expensive
