Google is rolling out a new feature for YouTube, and luckily it won’t intentionally make your experience worse. Although the company continues to make changes to the platform to make advertisers happier, the latest feature aims to provide a more curated experience for users. Like many of Google’s recent projects, it will use artificial intelligence (AI), but this one focuses more on your feed rather than what a company is trying to sell you.
Announced in a Google press release, this new feature is a bullet point called “Your Personalized Feed” and allows users to enter a prompt for YouTube to generate a feed of videos based on those queries. You’ll find it on the YouTube homepage, although it may not be available yet as YouTube is slowly rolling out the new version.
Google is currently rolling out this new chip to users in the United States who are logged into the YouTube mobile or desktop app, with English as the default language. However, users will need to ensure their YouTube search and viewing history is enabled to see the feature. We can show you how to manage this on your desktop and introduce you to other YouTube features you need to get started using.
How to Create a Custom YouTube Stream
Google has been busy updating YouTube, recently adding tools to better identify AI-generated content. Now, the company is adding a new bullet to the YouTube homepage called “Your Personalized Feed,” giving users the option to enter a prompt and let the AI create a personalized feed. Prompts users enter can be as vague or specific as they want, with Google providing examples such as “give me something different beyond my usual flow” and “help me unwind after work with guided meditations under 10 minutes.”
To start customizing your feed, select the “Your custom feed” bullet at the top of the YouTube home page. Google will then give you suggested prompts, or you can enter your own in the text box labeled “Tell us in your own words.” YouTube will present you with a feed based on your criteria, and you can edit your prompt to create a new feed at any time. Feeds will automatically refresh and users can access them at any time.
Since your YouTube search and viewing history must be enabled to access the feature, you can quickly check on desktop by going to YouTube, tapping your profile icon, and selecting Your YouTube Data. You can check if Watch and Search History is enabled, and you can enable them from either column. While useful, we hope YouTube doesn’t decide to pay for the new feature, as it has with other popular features.
