Windows and Surface October 2026 Event: Live updates and announcements from Microsoft

Tech giants like Samsung, Apple, and Google have already held their major events in 2026, but with fall in full swing, another big name is joining in with its own event. On Wednesday, October 7 at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET, Microsoft will host a Windows and Surface event – the first in over two years. According to the company, the livestreamed event will feature “a sneak peek at what’s next for Windows, Surface, and NVIDIA.”

Microsoft is naturally keeping its announcements as a surprise for the event, but there’s a lot of speculation about what we can expect from the San Francisco scene. In terms of hardware, there’s a chance we’ll see more of the Surface Laptop Ultra, which was announced at Computex 2026, but it’s still missing a price or release date. It’s shaping up to be as viable a competitor to the MacBook Pro as Microsoft has seen in some time – provided the price is right. Also taking center stage will be the RTX Spark chip, which Nvidia says “delivers incredible creation, AI development, and gaming” on thin laptops and smaller desktops. It would power the Surface Laptop Ultra.

On the software side, Windows 12 isn’t really expected to debut on Wednesday, but we should see plenty of updates for Windows 11. These will undoubtedly focus heavily on AI, including AI agents that users can configure to work for them on Windows machines. We’ll keep track of all the big announcements live below once the event begins.
