Will Liquid Glass be improved on Mac?

When Apple reveals its next macOS at WWDC 2026, a new report says it will have a slightly redesigned Liquid Glass interface, although it will actually be the same design iterations the company has always made.

Liquid Glass has been the subject of harsh criticism, but as with every version of macOS before, Apple will refine and redesign it slightly every year. According to BloombergThis year’s revision mainly concerns the appearance of different Mac elements with Liquid Glass.

Specifically, the “light redesign” aims to focus on improving various readability issues. Where this has happened so far is in Liquid Glass’s transparency and shadow effects, so that’s likely what Apple will be working on.

This is the same thing Apple does after every major redesign, starting with the toning down of the Aqua interface in the early years of Mac OS

Speaking of iOS, the report also states that Apple’s work on the next version will include a benefit for macOS 27. Apple is reportedly working to make Safari’s tabs self-organize, as can already be done in competing browsers.

Tab groups are definitely an area that needs attention, and not just because some of their elements look better on other browsers. Many years ago, Apple added an option to Shortcuts on Mac that was supposed to allow users to automatically switch between tab groups, but to this day the shortcut action fails with an “internal error.”

However, it works perfectly on iOS and iPadOS, so hoping that improvements on those platforms will also come to the Mac might still be wishful thinking.
