Why is this the only pink MacBook available right now?
Is one more too much to ask?
Want a pink MacBook? Unfortunately, options are few and far between.
The MacBook Neo, Apple’s latest addition to its laptop lineup, is the only personal computer available in the beloved pink hue. Dubbed “Blush” by the tech giant, this shade has received a lot of love on social media, mainly among students.
While the color options of this budget laptop are head-turning, the device is better suited to casual users and note-taking. He simply doesn’t have the power to tackle professional-level creative work.
Since Apple quietly removed rose gold from all laptops, which may never have really suited it to pink purists, the brand has shied away from releasing its high-end models in vibrant shades. Sure, you could opt for a pale blue MacBook Air, but if you want to spring for a Pro, you have no choice but to keep things traditional with Silver and Space Black..
While there’s certainly an element of functionality over form at play here, why can’t Apple merge the two worlds and create a second pink MacBook?
A plea for pink
Vibrant colors are on the rise on several devices, including smartphones. More recently, Google’s Pixel line has received plenty of pink treatments, with the new 11 coming in a striking shade of hot pink (called Hibiscus) that’s reminiscent of the Motorola Razrs of old. Conversely, the foldable and reinvented Razr is available in Hot Pink, paying homage to the original design.
It’s not like Apple doesn’t know how to create fun colors. Two distinct shades of pink power off the 16 and 17e phones, the latter being more subdued than the bold, brighter look of the 16. The latest base iPad with A16 comes in a hot pink that’s rivaled only by the bright yellow variant of the same model, and the iMac M4 comes in a number of eye-catching colors, including pink.
Move from these models to, say, the iPad Pro or MacBook Pro, and at best you’ll find them in subtle, muted colors, in addition to the typical grays and silvers.
Rose gold was something of a middle ground, bringing a pop of color to iPhones throughout the mid-2010s, MacBook Airs discontinued in 2019, and Apple Watches, which also ended this year. The Apple Watch Series 11 was the last showcase of this color, but with the arrival of the Series 12 this year, even that is gone. The most “colorful” option in this new range is a Night Blue, which is quite dark, as the name suggests.
Recent Pro iPhones have given us a tiny bit of hope: the 17 Pro comes in an ultra-saturated orange, while the 18 Pro offers the rich burgundy and subtle ice blue options. With rumors of a reinvention of the MacBook Pro line on the horizon, it’s time for Apple to bring some color to its laptops, too.
