If you’re considering placing a television in your bedroom but aren’t sure where to place it, some consideration is in order. When planning, you should take note of how your room is laid out, its size and the placement of existing furniture.
A natural and obvious place to put a television is directly in front of your bed, especially if you like to fall asleep to movies and shows. You can either place it on a piece of furniture or mount it on the wall at eye level with the bed, but try not to place it where it might catch the glare of a window or other light source.
If you’re looking for clever ways to hide your TV in the bedroom, you can also purchase a mirror TV or a frame TV, which can double as a mirror or a piece of art, respectively. You can even install special fixtures, like a TV lift stand, to easily put your TV out of sight when it’s not in use.
Mounted directly on the wall
Naturally, it’s best to place a TV in a bedroom where you’ll spend the most time watching it, whether that spot is your bed or another seating area. Wall-mounting your bedroom TV is a simple, space-saving solution that doesn’t take up valuable bedroom floor space. The key to properly mounting a TV on your bedroom wall is finding the best location relative to your intended viewing position. To determine the best TV mounting height, you must first establish this position as the default.
First, lie down or sit on the bed in a comfortable position. Note which part of the wall is at eye level, then mark that location as the place to install your TV wall mount. If you opt for a fixed wall mount, doing so beforehand will ensure you don’t have to crane your neck every time you watch TV in the bedroom.
However, an adjustable TV mount allows you to control the angle of your TV once it is on the mount. Unlike static stands, adjustable stands allow you to tilt or swivel your TV; some full-motion models can even extend your TV outward to bring it slightly closer to you. This type of flexibility comes in handy if you have a separate seating area near the bed that you also use for watching TV. Try to avoid mounting your TV behind your bedroom door, however, as this is one of the worst places to mount a TV.
Inside another piece of furniture
Beyond the obvious solutions, there’s a creative way to hide the TV from your bedroom when it’s not in use: using furniture. You can remove a few shelves from a large cabinet to create a nook for your TV or, if you’re crafty, build your own custom TV stand. However, one of the best (although most expensive) ways to mount your TV in your bedroom is to purchase or build a dedicated TV lift. These cabinets leverage built-in motors to raise your TV from the inside, then lower it inside once you’re done watching. They’re visually pleasing and a fun piece of technology, and some models on the market even include proper storage.
Designed for flat-screen TVs between 32 and 55 inches, the Vivo TV stand comes with shelves, separate storage cabinets and a sleek walnut-colored wood design. However, it costs $899, and that price doesn’t include the remote, companion app, or installation media – this add-on package costs between $180 and $240. Conversely, at $430, the Aiegle Hidden TV Lift Stand is a more affordable option that includes storage, a stand, and a remote control.
If you’re opting for a TV lift unit, it’s worth researching what’s out there to find the option that best suits your decor and storage needs. Whether you integrate your smart TV into your furniture, mount it on a wall, or display it on a media console, there are plenty of viable ways to watch your favorite shows from the comfort of your bed.
