WhatsApp has started rolling out its new username feature, WABetaInfo reports. Some users who have reserved their username have started receiving a notification that their username is active and they can now use it to send and receive messages to other users without revealing their phone number.
When someone creates a username, WhatsApp notifies people who are already actively chatting with that person. WhatsApp doesn’t have a username directory to browse, nor username discovery suggestions, so users will need to know the exact username of a WhatsApp user to send a message.
