There is now an unsubscribe option for something that should have been enabled in the first place.
Twitch has updated its account settings to allow streamers to opt out of letting Amazon (Twitch’s parent) train generative AI models on their content. Some may not have realized that this setting was automatically enabled on their account – which is deeply disgusting – but at least they can now tell Amazon to remove it if they’re anti-genAI or just don’t want to let the company exploit their work.
A support page states that if a streamer unsubscribes, their streams (and on-demand versions thereof), clips, stream discussions, and any other text and images on their channel will no longer be integrated into Amazon’s models in the future. The purpose of these models, Twitch says, “is to generate or synthesize text, audio, images, or video.”
Streamer content may still be used for other AI or machine learning-based purposes, including automated captions. Twitch notes that its AutoMod tool does not retain user data or mine it to generate material. He added that some AI features help protect the entire community and “disabling them for just one person would weaken the safety and security of everyone else on the platform, so these are not individual settings.”
If you’re a streamer and want to opt out of Amazon sucking up your content and pushing it into the gaping maws of its genAI models, simply visit your Twitch settings. You will see a “Training for Generative AI” toggle that you can turn off. This will also explain that Twitch and Amazon can still use your channel content for other AI-based features. If you participate in another streamer’s chat, their settings will determine whether what you post there is used for genAI training.
