Apple has settled a class action lawsuit over the delay of its Siri features.
With Apple’s promised Siri overhaul still nowhere to be found, shareholders who sued over the delay can now rest easy, thanks to a huge settlement.
At WWDC 2024, as part of its Apple Intelligence announcements, Apple previewed major improvements for Siri. The virtual assistant was supposed to receive an AI-powered cognitive boost, enabling advanced in-app actions, contextual awareness, and more.
The company has gone so far as to showcase Siri’s new capabilities in its marketing materials, including in video ads. However, things took a turn for the worse within a few months.
Apple had to delay a planned Siri update, leading to a class action lawsuit being settled in December 2025. On Tuesday, as noted The Financial Timesdetails of the settlement were finally revealed.
The parties settled for $250 million, providing US Settlement Class members with $25 per eligible device. However, Apple could be forced to pay up to $95 per device if the number of complaints filed is low. Part of Apple’s $250 million settlement will also cover administrative costs and attorneys’ fees.
Eligible devices include iPhone models supporting Apple Intelligence, purchased between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025 in the United States. This encompasses the entire iPhone 16 range, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Those wishing to submit a claim will need to provide proof of purchase, the serial number of the eligible device, their phone number, and their Apple account information. Apple will begin inviting claims within 45 days, starting May 5, 2026.
Apple also provided a statement on the matter, shared by 9to5mac.
“Since launching Apple Intelligence, we’ve introduced dozens of features in many languages that are integrated across Apple platforms, relevant to what users do every day, and built-in with privacy protections every step of the way. These include Visual Intelligence, Live Translation, Writing Tools, Genmoji, Clean Up and many more.
Apple has reached a settlement to resolve claims related to the availability of two additional features. We resolved this issue to stay focused on what we do best, which is providing the most innovative products and services to our users. »
As expected, Apple’s statement largely praises the Apple Intelligence features currently available, while treating the Siri-related settlement as a mere footnote.
The now-settled class action lawsuit accused Apple of promoting “AI capabilities that did not exist then, do not exist now, and will not exist for two years or more.”
Apple’s ads were also said to “saturate the Internet, television and other airwaves to create a clear and reasonable consumer expectation that these transformative features would be available as soon as the iPhone was released.”
Legal woes over Siri delays will continue elsewhere
As of this writing, the long-awaited Siri features are still not available to end users. They are expected to roll out with the iOS 27 update, which is expected to debut at WWDC 2026 on June 8.
However, Apple’s legal issues over the delay of its Siri features are expected to continue through a separate class action lawsuit. This is run by South Korea’s National Pension Service, which says Apple’s delays have cost billions in stock market losses.
“It is no secret that Apple has faced challenges and weathered ups and downs in its stock price in 2025, like many large companies,” Apple said in a request to dismiss the lawsuit in February 2026. “But plaintiff takes a massive and baseless step in claiming that securities fraud caused the temporary price declines.”
Ultimately, it remains to be seen whether this lawsuit will be dismissed or whether Apple will reach a settlement similar to the one it did in its other Siri-related case.
