Code strings discovered in iOS 27 suggest that Apple may be considering showing users a pause reminder after particularly long Siri AI conversations.
Code strings in the first developer beta of iOS 27 refer to a “pause message” that would remind users that they have been in a conversation for an extended period of time and that Siri is not a real person. Based on the code shared, the reminder appears as follows: “You have been in this conversation for (n) hours – consider taking a break. Siri is not a person, but will be there when you are ready to continue.”
While screen time tools typically focus on usage time, Apple appears to specifically address the risk of parasocial attachment to AI, by integrating a prompt that explicitly reframes Siri as a tool rather than a companion. This concern is part of a broader conversation within the AI industry about unhealthy usage patterns. OpenAI and Google have decided to add guardrails to their chatbot products, and Anthropic has been seen nudging Claude users to adopt healthier habits after long sessions.
Apple addressed several privacy and liability considerations for Siri AI during last week’s WWDC keynote, but did not address the issue of extended conversations. The existence of these code strings suggests that the company is thinking about the problem behind the scenes.
It is not yet clear how Apple would trigger the recall. The code does not appear to specify a fixed time threshold, suggesting that the company may use the duration of the conversation in combination with other signals to determine when to display the message.
