Some Gemini subscribers with a Pixel 11 will soon be able to try phone calls via an AI chatbot.
Google is offering an AI-based Hold for Me feature for several generations of Pixel smartphones. Starting today, the company’s AI will be able to handle an entire phone call for some common business tasks. Some Pixel 11 owners can ask the Gemini chatbot to make a call in the Gemini app, and the tool will speak to a person on the other end of the conversation, navigate phonebook menus, and wait on hold.
According to Google’s blog post, this Pixel 11 feature can support moderately complex tasks. Examples of Call for Me utilities include checking to see if a hardware store has an item in stock, rescheduling a haircut appointment to another day, or reserving seats on a restaurant patio. The Gemini app will show a live transcript of the call as it happens. “You stay in control at all times with a live transcription view and the ability to resume the conversation at any time,” Google says.
Call For Me will be available in preview to paid Gemini subscribers on the recent Pixel 11 smartphone who are also part of the Phone by Google public beta in the United States.
