Netflix is launching an overhaul of its iPhone app today, as previously announced, with a redesign centered around a vertical video stream called “Clips.” Here are the new features.

Netflix’s iPhone app changes navigation design and adds vertical video stream

According to the Netflix press release:

We’re rolling out a new mobile experience that makes it faster, easier, and more fun to find something you’ll love to watch, listen to, or play.

Last year, we updated our TV experience for the first time in over a decade. We now put the same emphasis on simplicity and fun on mobile. The new design puts what you care about front and center, with simplified navigation and a visual, vertical discovery experience that feels right at home on your phone.

The navigation bar at the top of the app has been expanded to offer more options than ever. And the bottom tab bar has also been revamped, removing the “New & Hot” tab and adding dedicated tabs for “Search” and “Clips.”

“Clips” is Netflix’s new vertical video stream in the iPhone app and is the biggest change in the current redesign.

According to the press release: “Think of “Clips” as a personalized highlight reel that helps you decide what to watch or play next, without endless scrolling. »

Here are the three main ways users can benefit from Clips:

  • Add to “My List”: See something you like? Add movies and shows directly to your list from the feed.
  • Share: Want to relive that long-awaited kiss, look for clues behind that OMG button or turn on a friend on your favorite comfort watch? Use the arrow at the bottom to share recommendations with your friends and followers via text or social media directly from the feed.
  • Explore: Planning a family movie night? Or just need a good laugh? Explore a world of personalized entertainment to help you decide what to press Play on next.

Netflix says this is just the start of its vertical video ambitions. Clips will then be expanded to include “podcasts, live programming, and collections based on genres, like romance or specific interests.”

According to Netflix, the redesigned iPhone app is rolling out today in various launch countries. These include the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines and South Africa. It will launch everywhere else in the coming months.
