The book-style foldable smartphone market continues to grow ahead of the expected launch of the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra later this year. We’ve seen models from Oppo, Huawei and Samsung so far, with a new Motorola device coming soon.
We already knew a lot of details about the Motorola Razr Fold, but now that includes the price and US launch date…
Samsung has so far been the main player in the book-style foldable phone market, with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 its latest model. “Book style” means that the folded device is similar in size to a conventional phone and then opens to a (small) tablet-sized screen.
The upcoming launch of the Motorola Razr Fold is no longer a secret. Our sister site 9to5Google I put it into practice almost two months ago. What we didn’t know was when it would go on sale in the US and at what price. These details have now been revealed.
Pre-orders open on May 14 and are delivered on May 21. The price is $1,899, which falls between the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Ben Shoon uses Samsung’s foldable as his daily driver, but says the Razr Fold offers a good balance of features and simplicity.
Motorola, with the Razr Fold, has created a very sleek but feature-rich experience. This strikes a very good balance.
Like Google and Samsung devices, the Razr Fold takes full advantage of Android’s tablet/foldable optimizations on this internal screen. You get a taskbar (which can be visible at any time with button and gesture navigation), as well as the ability to quickly drop apps into multitasking split-screen.
Beyond that, you can also position the foldable at an angle to use “laptop mode,” which turns the bottom half of the folded screen into a trackpad with a cursor on the top half. Samsung offers the same thing on Galaxy foldables.
It really seems like Motorola has mastered the software
Unsurprisingly, the iPhone Ultra is expected to be the most expensive model on the market, with a price tag of $2,000 or more.
