Apple’s 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with OLED touchscreens are currently being tested with macOS 27.1, scheduled for release in late October, according to the latest news from BloombergIt’s Mark Gurman.
While he previously said these high-end MacBook Pro models would be released in late 2026 or early 2027, Gurman’s latest report today places the laptops firmly in a list of products coming “later this year,” so it would appear he’s now more confident that Apple plans to launch them before the end of 2026.
Other rumored features for these MacBook Pro models include the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, a slimmer design, and a Dynamic Island instead of a notch.
Macmonde previously reported that these laptops would be branded MacBook Ultra, but that same report incorrectly stated that the iPhone Duo would be called iPhone Ultra. In any case, the first-generation MacBook Pro models with OLED displays are expected to be separate, more expensive models, sitting above the regular 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, which are expected to upgrade to the M7 Pro and M7 Max chips next year.
The first developer beta of macOS 27.1 will likely be released in the coming days.
