A few weeks before WWDC, Bloomberg has shared several details about what Apple has in store for the revamped Siri, powered by Google Gemini in iOS 27. Here are the details.
“An agent always available, capable of using personal data and acting on all applications”
Over the past few months, Bloomberg reported on several aspects and upcoming changes regarding Siri Agent, still active and powered by Gemini on iOS 27.
This includes reports that this year’s WWDC artwork is based on the new Siri animation, that Siri would also appear in Dynamic Island with options to “Search or Ask” when activated from the power button or via wake word, and that Apple is finally planning a standalone Siri app with a chatbot-like conversational interface, complete with downloads, history, and pins.
Now, Mark Gurman has shared even more details on what users can expect from the revamped Siri, building on his previous reports. The report also includes new information about an upcoming upgrade to the Camera app and improvements to the entire Liquid Glass system.
According to Gurman, iOS 27 will feature a new gesture that will allow users to invoke a system-wide “Find or Ask” feature, with the ability to tap a microphone icon to activate voice mode. From there, users will be able to “tap the search bar to toggle between using Siri or third-party offerings like ChatGPT or Gemini as their search engine.”
Extract from the report:
Users can also activate a new system search by swiping from the top center of the screen anywhere. When a user does this, a “Search or Ask” bar in the dynamic island will appear.
The report adds that this interface is similar to the current Spotlight Search feature on iOS, but that it “can display more advanced results and additional data from apps.”
In his report, Gurman also notes that Apple will make it easier to upload images and documents to Siri through the app and chatbot view, using a “+” button.
Finally, the report notes that users will be able to switch from a standard Siri interaction to this chatbot-like conversation mode by swiping down the transparent results card that appears after invoking the assistant:
When users interact with Siri, they can swipe down a transparent results card to enter a chatbot conversation mode, which resembles a text message thread. This interface features inline app mini-cards to see results for things like weather, upcoming appointments, and notes.
