For years, people have been complaining that their iPhone alarms aren’t going off for one reason or another. Most of the time, one of the first troubleshooting steps given to users was to try checking the volume set under Sound & Haptics to make sure it wasn’t accidentally turned down in some way. Others have even gone so far as to suggest disabling the ability to change your phone’s volume with the volume up and down buttons on the side of the phone, which sort of defeats the purpose of those existing buttons in the first place.
Fortunately, iOS 27 aims to finally fix some of the issues with this issue by adding a new volume slider just for alarms and timers. The latest beta for iOS 27 has a new option under Sounds & Haptics in your iPhone’s settings menu. This section is titled Alarms & Timers and now has a toggle you can turn off called Match Ringer Volume. When this option is disabled, you will now be able to customize the volume of your alarms and timers with a new on-screen slider option. You can download the iOS 27 beta on a compatible device right now to try it out if you want to see what other new features Apple is bringing to iOS 27.
A small but welcome addition
While it’s a very small change overall, the fact that the iPhone hasn’t had this option until now may have been frustrating for some users, especially since some Android phones have had the ability to separately customize their alarm and timer volume for a while. However, while it’s small, the addition of this feature should hopefully make it easier for some users who have trouble getting their iPhone’s alarm to work reliably.
While this may not completely solve the problem every time, it will at least hopefully eliminate some of the guesswork of having to figure out why an alarm hasn’t gone off. Of course, there are plenty of other things to look forward to in iOS 27, including all the new Apple Intelligence features powered by Google Gemini. Siri’s new AI mode has already started garnering positive responses from the Reddit community, so iOS 27 could become an interesting update for iPhone users.
