Instagram users rejoice: Meta finally provides something the platform needed a long time ago. It looks like someone at the company is finally listening, as Instagram also recently gave users the green light to edit comments in April 2026 (with a catch, of course). Those familiar with the platform probably know that your posts usually appear on your profile via a grid in the order in which you posted them. However, all that is about to change thanks to the update arriving this week.
Known as the “Reorder Grid” feature, users can now go to their profile feed and rearrange posts on their grid via a drag-and-drop method as they see fit. For some, this may be a huge improvement over the “Pin” feature, which allows users to pin three of their posts to the top of their feed. While it’s certainly useful, many users have also requested another feature that Instagram removed a long time ago.
The new feature is part of Instagram’s goal to bring more creativity to users. With the new Grid Reorder feature, users can now more easily share their music selection on Spotify via Instagram Notes. The platform also offers new handwritten fonts created from content creators’ actual handwriting. Users will be able to use these fonts in Reels and Stories. However, expect these new fonts on June 20. You may also want to know more about these three hidden features of Instagram.
How to use Instagram’s new grid reorder feature
Announced on Instagram and first spotted by USA Today, the new Grid Reordering feature allows users to organize posts in their Instagram profile in any order they want. In the post, Instagram said in a photo: “Your grid is often the first thing people see. Now you can organize it to reflect who you are right now, whether you’re setting the tone for your creative work, showcasing your best products, or simply making your profile more like you.”
Here are the steps to get started:
-
Open Instagram and go to your profile.
-
Tap and hold one of your messages.
-
Choose Rearrange Grid from the context menu.
-
Now long press and drag your messages where you want them.
Any changes made are immediately saved and all visitors to the profile can view them. You can update your grid as often as you want, although currently the feature only works on mobile. Looking at the comments on Meta’s Threads post, many seemed excited that the feature was finally available, with one user noting that it should have been there “over a decade ago.”
Additionally, while several users celebrated the company’s addition of this feature, many also suggested that the company allow users to see their friends’ posts in chronological order. For those unfamiliar, Instagram began using algorithms for an individual’s feed in 2016. While the new grid reordering feature may be something of a compromise in that sense, many should also remember that Meta can now read your Instagram DMs.
