Production company IMAX has had a mixed reaction to Apple’s adoption of a 1:1.4 aspect ratio on the iPhone Duo’s interior and exterior displays. The boxier ratio happens to be very close to the classic IMAX “full frame” aspect ratio, which comes from the geometry of the company’s original 15-perforation/70mm film system.
In response to an X post from someone wondering if we’ll see more 1:14.1 content thanks to the iPhone Duo, the official IMAX account said, “I love this for them,” but then added, “I still don’t watch movies on a phone…” Pre-orders begin October 16 ahead of an October 23 launch.
