Who hasn’t dreamed of sitting on a green stool in the shape of a controller?
It’s getting harder and harder to keep up with what’s happening on Xbox on any given day, but at least you can now attempt to do so from the comfort of your IKEA branded stool, part of the new nine-piece YXSTABY collection.
As part of Xbox’s 25th anniversary celebrations, Microsoft and the Swedish furniture giant announced their upcoming collaboration last week, and IKEA revealed the full collection at Gamescom in Germany. We’ve already been treated to a glimpse of the classic Xbox green D-pad, but both brands had much more to show.
You can see the full collection here, but it’s a mix of more decorative pieces, like the stainless steel tray also modeled on a D-pad, and less obviously Xbox-y furniture, which IKEA says is designed to “solve the familiar little challenges that can come from gaming at home.” This includes a roll-up TV stand with a storage compartment on the back and a toolbox for controllers and cables that doubles as a laptop stand. There’s also a controller display stand in two colors and a side table on casters with sliding doors. It’s all quite minimalist and, dare I say it, even quite desirable.

For my money, though, the real star of the YXSTABY collection has to be the controller stool, which IKEA designer David Wahl says was designed to function as a stool while still looking like a controller you recognize on your Xbox controller when you’re sitting on it. Wahl says it “tilts with you as you play,” which admittedly sounds like an accident waiting to happen if you’re someone who gets into drifting a little too much in Forza Horizon, but it’s definitely fun.
