Another week and another bug for Pixel owners to contend with. Unfortunately, this time it seems that the latest bug affecting Pixel users concerns one of the most basic services that smartphones are designed for: phone calls. Specifically, users of Pixel smartphones like the Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 9, Pixel 8, and even the Pixel 6a have started posting online on their devices, seemingly silencing phone calls despite the increased ringtone and volume. Although it has been reported several times, reports about the issue suggest that it is not affecting a large number of users at the moment. (via Android Authority)
However, if you’re facing this particular problem, it can be helpful to know that you’re not alone. Along with reports posted on social media sites like Reddit, the phone not ringing issue has also been submitted to Google’s official issue tracker. There also appears to have been multiple reports of the issue on the issue tracker, meaning Google is aware of it and the team has assigned the issue to someone so they can work on it.
Unfortunately, the exact cause of the problem doesn’t seem clear at the moment, although some user comments have indicated that it could be related to call screening on the Pixels. Until Google shares an official fix, there’s no way to know for sure. Fortunately, there are a few temporary solutions you can try to get your calls working properly again.
Disable verified calls and advanced spam filtering
Your Pixel smartphone can do many things, including using advanced scam call detection. While this is generally considered a positive feature of the device, it is also very likely to be the culprit behind this latest Pixel calling bug. One user posting on Reddit claims that by turning off these advanced filtering features, he was able to get his calls working again.
To make changes to your Pixel’s advanced calling features:
- Open the Phone app by Google.
- Tap the three dots at the top right to expand the menu.
- Next, tap Settings.
- Look for the Spam & Call Screening or Verified Calls options in the Advanced Protection suite.
- From there, locate the Verified Calls option and turn it off as well as any advanced spam filtering you have enabled.
- Now restart your phone and it should work again, according to the original poster.
Of course, this fix might not work for everyone, but if it does, that means you might get a few more unknown calls while you wait for Google to release an official fix. Google is aware of the issue and has assigned someone to this issue as of June 24. However, there is no guarantee as to how long it will take for the issue to be properly fixed and an update released to resolve it.
